Homemade Burp Cloths

Nothing beats a homemade burp cloth. The big box stores can’t even get close. I found this out way back when I was pregnant with my son. I couldn’t find a decent burp cloth for the life of me. The store bought burp cloths were thin and poor quality. They were so thin that I am certain they would never protect your clothes like they are intended to do and would probably fall apart after the first wash.

Then a miracle happened. To my delight, a friend gave me some homemade burp cloths as a gift at my baby shower. I was thrilled. They were just what I was looking for. I took them home, washed them up and put them folded neatly in the nursery. But there was a problem, I only had 4 of them and anyone with children know that 4 burp cloths will never be enough. I dug my sewing machine out of the back of my closet and set to work in making more. They turned out pretty good, so good that I decided to make more to give away and maybe even to sell. I started making trips to the local fabric shops and a small bin of fabric turned into 2 and then 3. My poor husband didn’t know what to think about the growing mounds of fabric but he was very supportive of my new adventure.

My business slowly grew and even thought it is still rather small today it continues to be a source of enjoyment for me. My husband will even pitch in and help when I have a deadline coming up. In my next few blogs, I will share with you how to make your own. If you would like to see my creations, please check out my web site at www.tentinytoesburpclothco.com
